LONDON – BP has contracted AMEC for engineering and project management services for the main platform design for the Clair Ridge project in the UK sector.

This is the second-phase development of the giant Clair oil field, west of Shetland. The value of the program to AMEC is $235 million, which earlier completed the conceptual engineering studies and define phase of the project.

AMEC will deliver detailed engineering and project management for construction and installation of two new bridge-linked platforms.

The scope includes detail design, follow-on engineering, site support, procurement, supply chain services, materials management and information management services for the whole project.

A 600-strong technical team will work on the project at AMEC’s London offices.

Both platforms are due to be installed in 2015, with production scheduled to start in 2016. Clair Ridge is designed to recover 640 MMbbl of oil, with peak output of 120,000 b/d.
